Presentations, an art to deliver information to an audience. It could be to talk about something, present information, present a product, anything. But what makes a good presentation, or a good speech as well?
There are several factors to consider when delivering a speech during a presentation, let’s start of with the presentation itself.
Whenever you want to deliver a good presentation, you want the audience to listen to you while also looking at the content on the screen itself. You wouldn’t want the content to take away the attention from the viewers.
To start of, let’s talk about the most common mistakes
Having text on a slide is a great way to communicate, but having too much text is not that great. During a presentation, the viewer has to focus on both the slides and the presenter, and with too much text, that attention is taken away from you and put on the text. Why? Because when the audience reads, they won’t hear you. This can be avoided by having short and simple bullet points, even replace text with images to really capture the attention of the viewer, since an image says more than 1000 words.
When you’re having a speech in front of an audience, you have their full attention. By reading of from notes it might sound unnatural for the listeners, you won’t have as much eye contact with them, plus it might make you seem less confident, which wouldnt be a good idea, especially if you’re trying to pitch a product. So to practice, over and over again to avoid it!
Using simple language to your audience, not everyone might be able to comprehend what you’re saying, that is however, if you know if your audience is a specific type of people, Jargon can be used.
While it may not be a common mistake, it’s important to think of. When pitching a product, you’d want to look presentable, but you also want your slides to look presentable. A small mistake can make the person looking at the slide think of the error more than listen to you, just like the too much text point.
Whenever you want to have a speech, present a product or a project, it basically works the same.
There is you, and the presentation.
